Jellyfish Monitor is an app designed for beachgoers to help keep them away from the dangers posed by jellyfish.

We noted that some beaches have warning signs for jellyfish stings, but they provide no further information. Jellyfish move in response to changes in weather or temperature. Therefore, we have designed this app to focus on the user’s own surroundings at the moment.

Jellyfish Monitor was designed with the idea of visualising information. With markers of different colours and sizes, users can find out information about the jellyfish around the area and whether the beach is open on a single map. Our timeline simulation feature uses information around the user to make assumptions about the movement of the jellyfish. Traditional sighting report forms often ask people to provide very detailed information, but this can lead to people being reluctant to report because they find it cumbersome. We have therefore optimised the reporting experience to make it more user-friendly.
